Elizabeth Dunlap

I started drawing from the figure in high school and continued through college, earning a dual undergraduate degree at the University of California, Davis, in Studio Art and History of Art. Additionally, more than 20 years of experience as a bodyworker and subtle body movement inform my digital work. I explore layers of anatomy and interrelated systems using Medical Visualisation tools like 3D modelling, animation, motion capture, and scripting.

I have what is currently called  in the literature, Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity Syndrome  (EHS).  Most recently, according to the Children's Defense Fund, it is being renamed Electromagnetic Radiation Syndrome (EMRS).  

I challenge terms such as “SYNDROME” which place blame on the body experiencing harm rather than on the technological environments producing radiofrequency exposure. The human organism is not defective in sensing its surroundings. Our bodies are perceptive instruments—capable of registering changes across many layers of biology and environment. From neuron to microtubule, dimer pairs within, and deeper or "further" still into the atomic and quark scale -- the rarified substrates often proposed as the material basis of consciousness. My work explores these layered anatomies, where biological, electrical, and subtle bodies meet. Subtle bodies are bodies too!
